Whichever way you’re planning to vote in the EU referendum on Thursday, 23 June, one thing I think we can all agree on is that the campaigns from the ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ sides have been nothing but unbridled joy, honesty and good humour. I for one was worried that a major decision over one of the most emotionally charged political question of the last few decades would result in a descent into personal attacks, crypto-racist (and outright racist) messages and chronic exaggeration and misrepresentation of what few facts actually exist around an action that has literally never happened before.
Thank god we avoided all that!
Ho, ho! Only joking, it’s been a fucking nightmare! But thankfully Bar Shorts are going to attempt to inject some thoughtful and intelligent expression into this utter mess with their Euro Shorts film night on June 23rd.
Setting up in The Book Club in Shoreditch on the evening before the big vote, the Bar Shorts gang will be screening a selection of short films that celebrate the diversity of all things European.
Among the filmmakers whose will be on show are Gruff Rhys, Marcus Armitage, Pieter Vandenabeele, Bob Godfrey, Dog & Rabbit, Will Anderson and a whole bunch more.
The evening kicks off at 7 with the films starting at 8. It’s free to attend, but you need to reserve your spot with Eventbrite first. Get more info at the Bar Shorts site.
