MarsCorp is a clean and efficient oasis of technological innovation that is perpetuated through exemplary teamwork. Thanks to the foresight and hard work of Martin Mann, the base now operates with record levels of output and efficiency. Staff satisfaction, happiness, harmony and attractiveness levels are at all-time highs and Project Awesome continues apace. We hope to share this progress with Earth in the near future.

At last, everything’s great at MarsCorp 😊

Here it is folks, the end of series one of MarsCorp. We’ve had some fun, haven’t we? Haven’t we? Uhhh… moving on.

Thank You!

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s downloaded the show. We worked our arses off on this so it’s nice that people actually want to listen to our insane creations. If you’ve enjoyed the horror, then please, please leave a rating on iTunes or wherever you got the show from, it really helps the show reach more people (which is what we really need at this stage).

And for those who have already rated the show, an even bigger thank you to you! (Also a bigger thank you if you’ve shared it on social media or IRL) Those little stars and those shares have really helped the show reach more people. We also want to say a big thank you to the guys on the MarsCorp sub-reddit (we love reading your thoughts on the show!) and those who spread the MarsCorp name on other sub-reddits, like an evangelical army.

Finally, a special thank you to all the heroes who backed our Kickstarter for MarsCorp all the way back in April 2015 (Jesus Christ that seems like a long time ago now…) We quite literally could not have made this show without your generosity and support.

Speaking of which, if you want to support the show in some way – from spreading the word on Facebook and Twitter to buying some cool merch – here’s how you can marscorppodcast.com/#support-marscorp

Success(?)

The show has done really well downloads wise and we’re now past 70,000 downloads, which we think is pretty darn good for 12 weeks (it took the Bunker 12 months to do those numbers!) We’re also seeing more people pick up on it now, with the show getting more mentions on Twitter and Reddit. We also had a very nice boost on Monday when MarsCorp was selected as one of Wired’s podcasts for the week.

MarsCorp featured on wired.comLike the placement of the article about soul-sucking offices next to MarsCorp 👍

Also, after a few weeks away, MarsCorp has steamed back onto the UK iTunes frontpage, slam dunking into the top carousel, alongside the big dogs from the BBC, NPR and the Barbican (how does a concrete complex make a podcast? Whatever).

MarsCorp on iTunes October 2016

And on the pedestal, these words appear / My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings / Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! / Nothing beside remains. Round the decay / Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare / The lone and level sands stretch far away.
(MarsCorp by Percy Shelley)

MarsCorp has also picked up a few nominations for the Audio Verse Awards. We’ll have more on that soon.

What’s Next?

*Takes a drag on a cigarette and looks to the sunset* I guess we just… live now. One day at a time…

And do more podcast stuff, obvs. Like a CIA operative collaborating with violent guerillas in a south American jungle trying to overthrow a communist government, we’re being secretive about what we’re up to. If you follow us on Twitter you might have seen some mentions about recording. We don’t want to reveal what it is just yet, but we plan to have a few things for you to listen to before the end of the year. Oooo, we’re such teases!

“Will there be a series 2?”

Hahahahahahaha! Ahem, sorry. MarsCorp was conceived as a 24-part show (seriously. We’re nothing if not ambitious/stupid), which we initially planned to write and record all in one go. But then we stopped sniffing glue and decided to break it into two series, which reduced the chance of us dying during the production.

However, we have no immediate plans to put the second series into production because money. Making MarsCorp took literally thousands of hours and basically became a part-time job for David, Tom and I, at the end of which we were pretty spent. If we’re going to do another series we need more resources so we can a) live half-way normal lives, b) get some other people in to help with the production, and c) pay the actors, musicians, artists and ourselves properly. We have some ideas about how me might do that, which we’ll hopefully be able to tell you more about soon.

So to answer the question “will there be a series 2?”, the answer is, “maybe”.

“What can I stuff into the void with now that there’s no more MarsCorp to fill me up?”

You can try the following fiction podcasts:

The Bunker – lol, jk.

The Monster Hunters – Written by and starring Jim Lake, aka young Christopher Lee, aka Matthew Woodcock.

Tin Can – A new show by David Devereux (great first name there) about a damaged space ship floating through space.

Hector vs The Future – Sci-fi and funny and kind of sad. Our kind of show!

Alcohol – Available in all good shops.

Until next time.

To MarsCorp!

MarsCorp Part 11 Is Out

MarsCorp helps those who help MarsCorp. On joining the MarsCorp mission you can expect to receive your own quarters, which includes a bed that transforms into a toilet and shower, four (4) sets of official MarsCorp overalls, two (2) MarsCorp pens, and a MarsCorp life insurance policy that will ensure your family and MarsCorp are adequately compensated in the event of your expiration during the mission. These perks are afforded to all human capital for devoting themselves to their tasks. However, in the event of an employee going above and beyond the normal expected level of dedication, management can choose to recognise and reward that employee with medals, one extra day of leave, promotion or a bottle of mid-range liquor.

After recent events, including the traumatic experience at ‘Site B’, it’s fair to say that Hob has reached ‘legendary’ status at MarsCorp, and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. Base Manager Martin Mann has keenly watched her progress and wants to recognise all she’s done with the one thing guaranteed to get Hob excited.

Elsewhere on the base, everyone adapts to the loss of key personnel at Site B, which means new roles and responsibilities for some.

OMG, it’s the penultimate episode! We hope you’re hyped to the max as we near the series conclusion. If you are hyped to the max then we advise first having a drink of water, sitting down and doing a breathing exercise to calm yourself. Once you’ve climbed down from your state of delirium you should ask yourself ‘what can I do to support MarsCorp?’ Good question. The main thing you can do is rate us on iTunes (or wherever you got it from). New ratings have a big effect on the show’s chart position, and the reason we’ve dropped so far down – in spite of getting a lot of downloads – is because the new reviews have stopped coming in! Only you can stop the drop!

Of course, you might have already rated the show, in which case, nice one! You can still show some love by spreading the word about MarsCorp. Facebook and Twitter mentions are always much appreciated (and we’ll probably reply with a really, really great gif on Twitter as well), and we’ve found posting it in the various podcast pages on reddit (and upvoting it, obvs) is also a really good way to reach new people. The other way of course is to tell people in real life, although people can forget recommendations so you should either wrestle their phone off them and subscribe to the show or follow them home and write ‘MarsCorp’ on their house in red paint (lawyer’s note: Absolutely do not do this).

If you want to go even further than that you can also give us a bit of financial support (oh boy do we need that!) by purchasing a MarsCorp mug for just £7 (plus p&p). They’re grrrrrreat!

MarsCorp Part 10 Is Out

There are certain jobs that allow human capital to perform actions in a repetitive, unthinking way, like an assembly line worker or a surgeon. MarsCorp does not offer those kind of jobs. The vital importance of the mission coupled with working at the cutting edge of human scientific and technological capability means all human capital must be fully emotionally engaged with their work, drawing on past experience to deal with present obstacles. Over time this will allow you to reflect, learn and improve yourself as piece of the MarsCorp mission and move forward as a human being.

With Resources foiled in their plan to destroy MarsCorp with ‘The Wheel’ they flee to their secret base that’s been under construction; ‘Site B’. The team find this desolate outpost virtually abandoned with disgusting relics of what went on here before Hob and the others arrived.

But this place is more than just a new site for Resources to try and establish their own colony. It holds a strange and powerful secret, one that threatens to destroy Hob and her team unless they can get to Alberich and his cronies first.

MarsCorp Part 9 Is Out

When operating in new and uncertain territories (e.g. another planet) there is a small possibility that threats and opportunities that were not anticipated by Happiness Inc. in pre-mission planning may present themselves. In such hypothetical situations it may be appropriate for the human capital to use their initiative (if unfamiliar with term, see chapter “Initiative: The dangers of thinking”). This is largely discouraged due to the finely balanced nature of the terraforming mission, but in rare cases it may be appropriate. Any initiative should receive approval of base management and the Resources Department before proceeding.

So often Hob’s problem with MarsCorp is the employees rigid adherence to rules and routines. But there is one Martian who is constantly trying to bend the rules to their own advantage; Dave Price. The lowly entrepreneur has set up a Dave Emporium introducing the Martians to consumerism, or what he calls “provide and desire”.

But while the base is distracted by Dave’s great items at the lowest prices, there is another greater threat. A group, hidden away, counting down to MarsCorp’s imminent destruction.

MarsCorp Part 8 Is Out

0

MarsCorp is a beacon of cooperation, collaboration and friendship. This is because the advance personality tests developed by Happiness Inc. ensure that every element of human capital assigned to the mission has the temperament and attitude that will allow them to work productively as part of a team while adhering to the MarsCorp values of truth, honesty and cost reduction. This pre-mission personnel screening means there is almost 0% chance of anyone on MarsCorp engaging in adverse, unlawful activity. In the almost impossible event of any unlawful activity, the base manager (or their appointed delegate) will combat the action swiftly and decisively.

Even in the planned “paradise” of MarsCorp, some of the worst human traits can still show themselves. Hob, gets an early morning call from the bossman and finds herself facing a very Earth-like problem; moyder! *Ahem* Sorry, we mean, murder. Someone’s stuck a Martian full of holes and Hob and Jim are the ones who need to find out why.

While they track down the killer, Hob also has to try and maintain order on base of scared Martians, which means the one-man security department has a lot of work on its hands.

MarsCorp Part 6 Is Out

ACHTUNG!: If you are a subscriber and haven’t got episode 6 yet try deleting and re-downloading the file from iTunes (or whatever you use to listen to podcasts). We’re sorry, we know this is a pain in the arse but we’ve had problems with our host.

There are different kinds of love[citation needed]; love for family, love for our jobs, love for that guy or girl you met during cognac Thursday, and of course, the greatest love of all – love for MarsCorp. In all of these relationships it’s important to make sure they remain appropriate, which is to say the level of love and affection you show is limited to stay within certain moral and physical boundaries. Except for your love of MarsCorp – your love for MarsCorp has no boundaries.

After the events of episode 5, Hob is now recognised for her abilities and even getting a bit of love from the Martians. But there’s one Martian in particular Hob would like a bit of love from, and he seems to like her, buuuuuuut this is Mars, so getting with him isn’t going to be that easy.

Of course, the challenges of turning around a terraforming colony don’t take a break for the sake of Hob’s love life, but for a multitasking pro like her, combining a quest to get laid with a mission to unveil a mysterious saboteur who wants to kidnap the base manager is a piece of cake.

MarsCorp Part 5 Is Out

0

To support the MarsCorp terraforming mission we must join hands (figuratively. Do not touch other human capital during work hours) and work together, combining our unique abilities in order to become greater than the sum of our parts. The most important partnership exists between the main MarsCorp base and the mining outpost, where raw materials are extracted from the planet for use in the terraforming mission – and for the contractual production of vast quantities of Ultra-Ade energy drinks.

Having won the respect of the Martians (well, most of them) during the MYIP festivities, Hob is given a new task by the base manager – to renew the cooperation agreement with the Ultra-Ade mine, which means earning the respect of the mine’s strange manager/despot Jonathan Kingsley. In an attempt to give Hob’s visit some gravitas, Martin insists David, Dave, Tom and Eric accompany her and Jim to the outpost.

Meanwhile, back at the base, Martin finds out about another secretive outpost that’s being constructed, and everyone on the base gets very sick.

MarsCorp passed the 15,000 download mark this week. Kind of an arbitrary mark but there you go. So the show’s doing ok, but downloads have slowed a bit. What we really need now is for people help get the show out there. The easiest way you can help is by simply leaving a rating (and a review if you want) on iTunes or wherever you got the podcast from – those little stars really do help the show! Another way is to share the show on social media (or IRL social interactions I guess).

You can also support the show and get a lovely piece of merchandise by buying an official MarsCorp mug! Professionally printed and capable of holding liquids, they’re great!

And as you might have heard, we’ve made the remaining episodes available for early access. We don’t make a lot of (i.e. almost no) money off advertising, so this is our main way to try and raise some money from the series to help us make more stuff in the future.

If you want to get the episodes early simply download the Acast app, search for MarsCorp and purchase the season pass – acast.com

MarsCorp Part 4 Is Out

An important part of working well is not working at all. It can be hard to separate yourself from your fulfilling professional duties, but occasionally (very, VERY occasionally) a few days off can be good for you. Taking time to mix with the rest of the human capital at MarsCorp in a relaxed and fun environment should make you more productive when you swiftly return to your job. Please enjoy your Annual Leave.

After a few months on MarsCorp, Part 4 sees Hob more relaxed with the Martians and even starting to enjoy getting stuck into the nitty gritty of work at the base, especially as it provides a welcome distraction from some painful memories of Earth. So MYIP (the Martian Youth Intern Programme) – which sees all work cease on the base – is a massive pain the arse for her. This inconvenience is made worse when Hob finds out she actually has to participate in MYIP in order to advance the terraforming mission, and in doing so she has her first proper dealing with the Resources department, and starts to understand just what they’re all about.

MarsCorp Part 3 Is Out

0

Any successful enterprise must be built on a solid foundation of people. Their minds, bodies and souls are what lie beneath the company and, like soil they, feed it, allowing it to grow and prosper. To ensure you extract maximum utility out of human capital you need make sure management is very effective at one thing – team building.

Part 3 of MarsCorp sees Hob finally get a chance to journey to the heart of the MarsCorp mission, the place where the terraforming mission is developed and advanced – the World Factory. But base manager Martin Mann warns her against getting too excited about the visit; the terraformers who run the factory have something of a reputation. Undeterred Hob rounds up a team to visit the site and assess progress, but soon finds that something very odd is going on at this vital outpost.

Meanwhile, back at the main MarsCorp base, Martin puts a new food initiative into effect, which creates a special opportunity for one particular Martian.

Downloads are picking up gradually and we’re still getting some really great feedback too, so thank you to everyone who’s listened, shared, rated, liked, evangelised about the show. Some people say completing a project is its own reward – those people are goddamned fools. Validation from people on the internet is the real reward.

Speaking of validation, MarsCorp is currently featured at the top of the UK iTunes store (and maybe in Australia and New Zealand? I can’t remember which regions the editor covers), which is very neat.

MarsCorp Episode 2 – Out Now!

0

Oh yeah baby, these episodes are coming thick and fast now! Yeowwww! MarsCorp Part 2 – Health & Safety, is out now to stream and download

This week, Hob tries to ingratiate herself with the Martians by dealing with their biggest concern about life at MarsCorp, and while it at first seems trivial it soon takes on a much greater importance. We also find out a bit more about chief of technology, Tom Dalling, and his slightly odd family situation.

I’m happy to say the response to episode one last week was great! We got more downloads than we were anticipating and have had some lovely feedback through reviews on iTunes and emails and stuff from people. Of course it would be better if people wrote nice things on iTunes where EVERYONE can see, but hey, that’s fine, we’re not fussy with praise. But if you DO like the show then we’d really appreciate if you left a rating on iTunes (or wherever you got the show from), because it really does help the show reach more people. Anyway, here are the links to download if you don’t want to stream it with the player above:

A couple of stars have also started a MarsCorp sub-reddit – where they are really getting into the nitty gritty of the show with some impressive analysis – and some TV Tropes entries, which are interesting to read.

Oh, and of course, we have some more sweet-ass artwork for episode 2 from Eric Chow:

It’s been a lonnnnnng time coming but it’s finally here!

Hopefully you now have a bit of an idea of what to expect from the show and are no longer concerned that MarsCorp is just the world’s worst ever pyramid scheme.

Shady pyramid scheme

“Our model is the Trapezoid, which guarantees each investor an 800% return within hours.”

We now have the final artwork for episode one from our brave and talented designer Eric Chow and we’re adding the final polish to the audio, so it looks like we’re actually, really, truly going to release the first episode on July 27!

MarsCorp Update 5 – Wrapping, Releasing and Subscribing

0

Right! Here we go, straight up, no messing about, straight off the bat, no beating around the bush, in your face, the skinny, the 411, the straight dope, the headlines… MarsCorp has a release date.

Brule glasses

Wednesday 27th July 2016! That’s when the first episode is coming out, with a new episode every week until early October.

We have a teaser trailer which will give you a teeny, tiny, teasery taste of what the show will sound like. You can watch it now on our Facebook page. The RSS feed is also already active (like I understand any of what I just typed), so you can subscribe to the show now to ensure you get all our new stuff as soon as it’s released.

We’ll also be releasing a few other things before the first episode drops. There’ll be a longer trailer next week, which will reveal a lot more of the show, we’ll show you some of the artwork and we’ll be publishing a few other bits on marscorppodcast.com that will reveal a bit more information.

So, a summary of the state of the of the show: recording is basically wrapped (yay), episodes 1-4 are basically finished (yay), episodes 5-10 are about 80% finished (yay) and 11 and 12 have rough edits (yay). We also have artwork for the first six episodes, and it’s looking a-mazing (yay).

It’s coming folks! MarsCorp is dangerously close to being a real thing you can listen to! Just a few more weeks…

The Bunker – Update

We passed 250,000 downloads – or quarter of a million if you want to make it sound flashier – a couple weeks ago, which was nice.

We also still have about 6 of the sexy Bunker episode 9 ‘Nothing Is Not Possible’ posters available to buy. They’re motivational! (Kind of)

Printed on A2 (the sexiest paper size) on high quality 250gsm paper (the sexiest weight of paper) you can get yours for just £8 plus p&p, and we ship internationally (the sexiest area to ship to). Order yours now.

MarsCorp Update 4 – Fun, Websites and Begging

0

Okay! Another fun, fun update from MarsCorp! Let’s cut to the chase; where are we with everything? Well we’re still knee deep in editing, but it’s coming along pretty well; we have rough mixes of episodes 1-6 (half the series) at the moment and should have them completed in the next couple of weeks or so. If we can keep up with our current burnout pace we should have about 8 or 9 episodes fully completed in a month or so, and then we can unleash our pain podcast on the world.

One thing we’ve found is that we waaaaaaay underestimated how long the episodes would be. We initially expected them to be around 30-35mins, but they’re coming in at 40-45mins. So I guess you’re getting extra MarsCorp for your buck. Is that a good thing? Only time will tell.

The other big news is that the MarsCorp website is up!!!

MarsCorp websiteAt the moment it’s fairly basic, with news, a bit about the background of the show and contact details. However, it does also have episode descriptions for all 12 episodes to whet your appetite.

We’ll gradually be adding new sections and content as we get closer to release, including trailers, ways to support the show, FUN STUFF, a shop and artwork for the episodes.

And that seamless setup allows me to smoothly move onto the announcement that we now have someone to do artwork for the episodes! More about that soon.

We’re slowly but surely getting closer to completing the series and releasing it for you all to hear. It is coming. Soon… ish.

In the meantime, if you’re not already onto it, you can follow MarsCorp on Twitter and Facebook for the latest news.

The Bunker – Update

Oh man. Really?! This thing? Urgh, fine.

Ok, so The Bunker is still racking up the downloads – up to 240,000 now – and getting slowly, slowly closer to the big quarter million.

We will be releasing slightly modified versions of the episodes soon that tidy up some stuff with the intro and credits for the show. The main purpose of which is to try and get people to bloody rate and review it!

Speaking of which, if you’ve listened to The Bunker can you please, PLEASE, take a minute to rate the show on iTunes (or wherever you got it from) – and if you’re really into it you can leave a written review as well. We never really made much effort to ask people to rate the show before, which we’ve now learnt was a bit of a balls up on our part, so we’re now trying to go back and fix the mistakes of the past. Like the Terminator.

Terminator 2 gif

‘Rate and review the show if you want to live.’

We also still have a few of The Bunker episode 9 ‘Nothing Is Not Possible’ posters available to buy. They’re professionally printed on thick, high quality 250gsm paper and brighten up any home, lighthouse, bunker or grief hole. We ship internationally.
